From the arranger:

These arrangements came to life – for the majority of them – in a Montreal loft in 2017, during a concert by my group collectif9. We had no idea then of the ramifications that would be added to this project. During the years that followed, we had the chance to play this music in a variety of locations, and quickly the idea of making an album took shape. I am delighted to finally be able to answer all the requests for sheet music that we have received with this publication.

I would like to highlight the invaluable contribution of my colleagues from collectif9 who gave me multiple opportunities to refine my proposition and who also greatly contributed their ideas and creativity. As such, the recording of this repertoire on collectif9 album No Time for Chamber Music can serve as a reference, particularly for sounds and gestures that cannot be notated in the traditional way. However, it is worth noting that some elements have been adjusted since the recording of the album.

It gives me great pleasure to make these arrangements accessible to interested musicians. I approached the music of Gustav Mahler with much respect and humility, with the aim of highlighting the richness of the interactions between the voices that characterizes it. I hope that these arrangements will be a source of pleasure for all those who decide to play them.

Commission/Dedication: Arranged for collectif9.
Premiere: First performed on April 8, 2017 at Matahari Loft, Montréal, QC by collectif9.
Recording: This work is recorded on the Alpha Classics JUNO-nominated album No Time for Chamber Music.
