From the arranger:
Miles Davis’s 1948 bebop composition Half Nelson is re-cast in the style of his 1949 debut as a leader in the Birth of the Cool sessions. The head is harmonized in six parts as Gil Evans did with “Jordu”, “Boplicity” and others, with a Davis-like economical solo for the lead cello in the middle.
Commission/Dedication: To Matt Haimovitz and UCCELLO.
Premiere: First performed August 7, 2009 at Domaine Forget in Saint-Irénée, QC by Matt Haimovitz and UCCELLO.
