From the composer:
Layers in Sync is written for solo viola, voice and live electronics for my dear colleague and friend, Muriel Razavi as part of her special project titled Ancient Eve on the poetry of Simin Behbahani of the same title. As I kept reading and re-reading this poem, the subversive element of sexuality was so bright and present that I had rarely encountered in Persian literature. I tried to echo the poem with multiple layers of melodic materials that collectively move towards a climax at the very end of the piece, amplifying the urgency of Simin Behbahani’s words in her description of this unique physical and mental experience.
Commission/Dedication: Commissioned by Muriel Razavi
Premiere: Premiered by Muriel Razavi as part of the Jede*rfrau Festival on September 28, 2024, in Salzburg, Austria.
